MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- A mother and her two-year-old son died in a car accident Monday morning on Highway 70 in Marshall County.

Troopers say it happened around 9:30. Betsy Mashore and her two-year-old son, Kennan, died when the driver of another vehicle, Amanda Thompson, 21, from Marietta apparently fell asleep at the wheel, then tried to over correct, hydroplaning and hitting them head on.

Mashore and her son died at the scene. Her husband, Kenny Mashore, is a Carter County deputy and a former Ardmore police officer.

"They’re all difficult. Every time we work a fatal so that touches all of us deeply, the small children makes is that much great of an impact," said OHP officer Danny Chafin.

American National Bank in Ardmore has a donation set up for the Mashore family.

Amanda Thompson, the driver of the first vehicle, is listed in critical condition.

This saddens my heart for all the parties involved. I know that God wants us to forgive and only he can give us that closure. I know that that Amanda Thompson is greatly saddened by this event and she will always have this pain in her heart, but God teaches us to forgive. She is NOT a MONSTER that intentionally did something to harm someone else, but a girl who made a mistake that ruined her life as well as took others. I think if the system works, she will get the proper help she needs to do better things in her life. She is a sweet girl that made an awful mistake, but a monster she is not. A monster would be someone who meant to do harm to another and dosent care about the results. Amanda very much cares and wishes she was the one taken that day. God is our ultimate judge and enforcer, let him have his way with her and her heart! God Bless all families involved in this tragedy!

I drive to Ardmore and back home in Kingston every day and only recently noticed the cross with the names on it along the highway. I did not know the family nor the victims and decided to try and find them on the internet. I did. People who drive along the highways see these everywhere and probably wonder about them. This is the first one I have looked into. My God in heaven, this stuff is so unbelievably sad. So much sorrow and heart filled grief for so many people. One thing for sure, they are with God and will surely see their loved ones eventually but it is such a painful wait and filled with memories that never go away. My prayers are with all of those concerned. I feel sad for you. It is not a good thing at all. God bless. Tony

I JUST HOPE THIS TIIME THAT THE COURT DOES SOMETHING INSTEAD OF PUTTIING IT OFF AS THEY HAVE IN THE PAST. IT'S SAD TO KNOW THAT THIS MONSTER IS ABLE TO HAVE ENJOYED THE HOLIDAYS WITH HER FAMILY. BUT FOR BETSY AND KENNON AND THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS TAKEN AWAY FOR EVER. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THAT KXII DO A FOLLOW UP ON THIS AFTER THE HEARING IF IT IS HELD AND LET THE PUBLIC KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS CASE. GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS HORRIBLE CREATURE. MAYBE THE COURTS SHOULD THINK ABOUT PUTTING PEOPLE LIKE HER IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE WITH THE SOUND OF LITTLE KIDS CRYING AND THE SCENT OF BABY POWDER PIPED IN THRU THE AIR VENTS.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 4, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. Please pray that justice will be served for Betsy and Kennan, and this MONSTER will be taken off the streets and will not have the ability to walk the streets!
