MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- A mother and her two-year-old son died in a car accident Monday morning on Highway 70 in Marshall County.
Troopers say it happened around 9:30. Betsy Mashore and her two-year-old son, Kennan, died when the driver of another vehicle, Amanda Thompson, 21, from Marietta apparently fell asleep at the wheel, then tried to over correct, hydroplaning and hitting them head on.
Mashore and her son died at the scene. Her husband, Kenny Mashore, is a Carter County deputy and a former Ardmore police officer.
"They’re all difficult. Every time we work a fatal so that touches all of us deeply, the small children makes is that much great of an impact," said OHP officer Danny Chafin.
American National Bank in Ardmore has a donation set up for the Mashore family.
Amanda Thompson, the driver of the first vehicle, is listed in critical condition.
