HOWE, Tex. --Over the past few days, private and public charity organizations across North Texas have reached out to flood victims, but one group is unique as it was started by a seven-year-old boy who has plenty of experience in helping people who have been devastated by natural disasters.

Hundreds of people in North Texas lost everything they had to the rising flood waters of this past Monday.

Now, one little boy from Howe is trying to help.

"It was pretty rough, and I really didn’t like it."

Seven year-old Andrew Malphrus is the organizer of the group ‘Kids Serving Kids,’ an organization specifically designed to collect new or gently used toys and books for children.

"We want to help kids that were hit by the floods and lost every single thing they had,"
says Andrew.

But this isn't the first time Andrew stepped up to help a ravaged community. He also did it back in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina.

"Well, those kids lost everything, they need something to do and something to play with so I got that started and now I want to do this," Andrew said.

“Katrina was a large deal, but we had a lot longer to work with and so this is kind of short notice try to get it done because the people will be dispersing and harder to get to them," said David Malphrus, Andrew’s father.

Andrew's father, David, says his son would be the first to give up something he owned to help another.

That’s why he wasn’t surprised when Andrew wanted to help.

"He came to us, we didn't go to him, he came to us and asked what we could do for the community can we do another toy drive."

The ‘Kids Sharing Kids’ trailer is set up by the Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman, and they will be there through Monday.

Andrew wants everyone to chip in.

"I want them to have something."

Andrew and his father say that the group will also accept monetary donations.
