SHERMAN -- Some extra help is headed to Sherman. Governor Rick Perry has ordered the deployment of National Guardsmen in the event of another round of major flooding.
If needed, Guardsmen will work along-side city officials to help with road-blocks and water rescues among other things.
Three trucks arrived in Sherman late Tuesday afternoon and are staging next to the Central Fire Station.
Sherman fire Chief Jeff Jones says the Guardsmen arrived before any flooding, and he hopes the extra hands won't be needed.
"In cooperation with Grayson County and the State of Texas, we are pre-positioning equipment in the event of some more bad weather. The governor has offered, and we have accepted the deployment of some high-profile vehicles with assistance from the National Guard," said Sherman fire Chief Jeff Jones.
Even though the guardsmen haven't been called on yet, Jones says they could be sent to other nearby communities if and when they're needed.
