Two Oklahoma police departments are welcoming new chiefs to their respective towns. Scott Pemberton has been hired as the new chief in Dickson, and city officials in Ardmore have appointed a new chief as well.
Scott Pemberton has officially been hired as Dickson’s new police chief. The City Of Dickson's Board of Trustees voted Pemberton in on Monday. The trustees also approved the hiring of two new police officers to the force.
Pemberton says he is excited about the new hirings because this is the first time since last year the Dickson police has had a full staff of officers.
Pemberton has previously served as the Dickson Schools resource officer and the police department’s chaplain.
Also in Oklahoma, the citizens of Ardmore came to a decision on Thursday on a new police chief.
The mayor and commissioners approved the appointment of Dave Leonardo Thursday in a special meeting.
Leonardo brings 36 years of law enforecement experience to Ardmore. He is leaving Peoria, Arizona, to take the chief's job in Ardmore.
Leonardo faces the challenge of turning around a troubled department. A recent study showed low morale and lack of leadership within the department.
Many applicants applied for the opening, including several from within the department.
