MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- Oklahoma congressman Tom Cole was in Marshall County on Thursday to meet with local business owners and tour areas affected by the rising levels of Lake Texoma.
Congressman Cole heard from business leaders about how much the wet weather has devastated their revenue where business owners said the losses are staggering.
On Saturday, Congressman Cole saw the devastating effects of flooding in Jefferson County.
On Thursday, the congressman met with local business leaders in Marshall County.
Cole got a first-hand look at the economic challenges local businesses face.
During the meeting, officials from the Lake Texoma Tourism and Recreational Board said they usually expect $600 million of revenue every year.
So far the estimated loss is a quarter of a billion dollars.
Marina owner Sherri Williams is one of those coping with the economic disaster.
"Just looking at the numbers, our Fourth of July, the one day last year, our total revenue was $75,000. This year, it’s less than three thousand for the weekend. It was down over $200,000. It’s just disastrous."
Tourism officials estimate it will cost another $200 million for businesses to clean and rebuild.
There will be FEMA survey teams trying to figure out the amount of damage and many of these businesses will be eligible for low-cost loans and direct assistance.
Before those FEMA teams can figure those estimates. The water will have to go down. The Corps of Engineers says that will take about forty days -- if the weather cooperates.
