ADA, Okla. -- Police in Ada are investigating a stabbing they’re calling a tragic accident.

Around noon on Sunday, Connie Haines told authorities she was playfully waving a knife at her husband.

She told them when her 17-year-old son Christopher Carpenter walked up behind her, she accidentally stabbed him in the chest.

Carpenter was rushed to Valley View Hospital in Ada. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Ada Police Department and the Pontotoc County District Attorney's Office are investigating the case.

No arrests have been made.

Well if there was a fight why isn't the dad talking and the mother behind bars. I doesn't take CSI to figure it out.

To stab someone in the chest and kill them you would have to hit them pretty hard. I do not believe it was an accident while playing. I heard rumors that there was a fight.

What a tragic end to a short life. If this was a freak accident, this woman will have to not only live with killing her son, but also with everyone believing she did it on purpose. If it wasn't an accident, I hope there is enough evidence to bring her to justice. So sad all the way around. Guilty or not she and the entire family need to be lifted in prayer!

LETS JUST HANG EVERYONE THAT COMMITS A CRIME AND THE HECK WITH A HEARING OR JUDGE AND JURY WE ALL ARE SENDING PEOPLE TO PRISON BEFORE THE TRUTH IS EVEN OUT. WE ALL OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF OURSELVES.

My question is why the father hasn't commented and just the mother, what is his side of the story? If it was not an accident and he is not coming forward then he is just as guilty. I smell something fishy and the WHOLE story is still untold. It is innocent til proven guilty, but the law needs all the facts to serve proper justice.

I do not see how anyone could be playing with a knife sharp enough to fatally stab a young man. I could see how a 17 year old might jump in the middle of a fight between his mother and her husband and be caught in the crossfire. The truth needs to be told for CHRIS!! This is a very terrible thing to happen and I would not wish it upon any parent to be in the position of knowing that they caused the death of their own child by their actions, whether intential or accidental. I live in Ada and have heard several different versions of what happened. Someone needs to speak up and tell the truth. Someone needs to speak for CHRIS!!!!

It's actually PAY IT FORWARD and the death at the end was no accident. One kid fought the other and stabbed him with intent to do so. Seen it a hundred times. And good point, the son was 17, not two... even more reason to raise an eyebrow as to how she accidently stabbed her own son, in a lethal place on his chest, when he walked up behind her. I might could understand if he walked in front of her, but how swiftly should one be swinging a knife even if she was playing? IT'S STILL MANSLAUGHTER OR HOMICIDE. It's like me playing chicken with someone in my car and we hit head on. The other person dies. I'm charged with VEHICULAR HOMICIDE OR MANSLAUGHTER- they're not going to allow me to say "I was just playing...it was a terrible accident."

has anyone watched the movie PASS IT FORWARD WATCH THE MOVIE AT THE END YOU CAN SEE HOW ACCIDENTAL DEATH CAN HAPPEN. She is innocent until proven guilty and the only one there was the husband. And we are all so quick to judge. Thats why we have people in prisons that don't belong and thats why what we have in this world. Everyone makes judgement and you don't even have your facts. And for christ sake the boy was 17 not 2. My heart goes out to the mother and the father and the family this is just awful. You be the mother that stabbed your child accidentally and see how you feel. DONT BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE PEOPLE, YOU ARE ALL READY TO SEND HER BEHIND BARS AND YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING BUT WHAT YOU HAVE READ IN THE NEWS.
