ARDMORE, Okla. -- As the water slowly recedes on Lake Texoma, efforts now turn to the cleanup. But what precautions people should take in that cleanup process?

Rain has caused one problem after another for local residents, including oil and sewage spills.

Now officials with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality are making sure you know how to clean up safely.

It's not just the raw sewage and oil in the water that concerns people around Texoma and other flooded areas. It's what those dirty waters could leave behind.

Black mold can take over fabrics in furniture, carpets, even stuffed animals and baby toys.

Other problems can be a simple rash to extreme cases of stomach cramps and severe fever.

DEQ and state health department officials say cleaning up will be a difficult chore and they want to make sure citizens take the right precautions.

The Oklahoma DEQ and Texas CEQ have a lot more info on proper cleaning procedures.
