WILSON, Okla. -- Along with this week’s rain in southern Oklahoma came dangerous lighting which struck a local church. Now church members are working to repair the damage before the next round of severe weather hits.

Wilson pastor Bruce Almy feared the worst when he heard his church, Wilson Baptist Church, was hit by lighting. He thought the roof would be caved in or even worse, but when he arrived to work he knew it was a miracle.

Almy got a call early Tuesday morning telling him lightning had struck the church, and it was severely damaged.

When he finally saw what damages the lighting did cause, he said he thanked God.

Lighting had hit the tallest part of the building throwing rocks and debris from the church over fifty yards, but thankfully there was no internal or major structural damage.

Almy says he is just happy no one was hurt and that the damage done can be repaired.

"It’s just a blessing. It was wonderful nobody was around…just rock all over the place that could have hurt someone; cars would have been around with busted windshields. We’re just fortunate it happened that time of the morning, and nobody was around, nothing got hurt other than the rock that fell off," says Pastor Almy.

Almy says he is now waiting on insurance adjusters to take care of the claim.

He’s hoping to have all the cleanup done and damage repaired as soon as possible.
