OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Officials say about $15 million sent to Ardmore in May for airpark improvements will pay off in jobs for the area, regardless of whether a Chinese automaker decides to locate an M-G plant in the south-central Oklahoma City.
Governor Brad Henry approved the $15 million from the Opportunity Fund to extend the runway at the airpark.
The airpark extension and plans to build an international trade center and air cargo distribution center were among the incentives involved in efforts in 2006 to land the M-G plant.
Henry says today that as far as he knows negotiations are continuing with officials of the Nanjing Auto Group in China to locate the M-G plant in Ardmore.
So did Wes Stucky, president of the Ardmore Development Authority.
Officials announced last year that the Chinese automaker planned to locate a plant in Ardmore, but later a company official was quoted as saying those plans were being scrapped.
Oklahomans say the official did not speak for the company.
