Woman charged with animal cruelty

ADA, Okla. (AP) - An Ada woman accused of abusing a pit bill
terrier has been charged with a felony count of animal cruelty.

Pontotoc County sheriff's deputies removed the starving dog with
maggot-infested wounds from the home of Pauletta Samis this week.
The cruelty charge was filed on Friday.

Sheriff Pete Peterson says a caller alerted deputies to the
dog's condition. Deputies found the dog tied up. A cable lock had
been wrapped around its neck twice. Its bones were visible and its
head was swollen.

The dog was taken to an animal clinic where he was given
intravenous fluids, medication and painkillers.

A veterinarian says the cable was wrapped so tightly around the
dog's neck that it had started to grow into its flesh and was
cutting off blood flow.

A woman is cruel to a dog and everyone cries hang the woman. A dog attackes a ten year old boy and nearly puts out his eye, completely removing part of his upper lip and leaving him scarred for life and every one is more concerned about the dog. I'm confused.

That b****, take her ass away. I wish someone would do that to her, maybe she would know how cruel she really is. Edited by KXII Staff for content.

Stories like this make me absolutely mad. First of all to those of you griping about the breed, it is not the breeds fault that they are so mean. The owners of these "mean" dogs raise them to be this way so they don't know that they are doing anything wrong. But that is not what this story is about, this story is talking about abuse in the form of neglect! This poor dog. All a dog wants is to be loved, fed, and have a caring family to love and protect. For someone to promise a dog a home, a haven, and then do something like this is apalling. It's like adopting a child and then forgetting to feed and bath it.

so many cases of neglect, abuse and the atoka man of having destroying animals on his own. I just wish people would take care of their pets, not let them tresspass, infringe on other peoples rights, property, or threaten non-pet owners. not only am I getting tired of repeating myself here, I'm tired of having to deal with all the stays that are dumped near my home that run amuck urinating and deficating on my property and being a constant obstacle in the roadway and putting my vehicle in danger of damage, (which I pay taxes for the road and collision insurance if I hit a dog, plus the road hazard for my tires for an old carcass left on the road). a dog owner has as much responsibility for his pet as he would a child, including some level of obiedience training. if any of these people have kids, they need to be taken away!

I don't care what breed this dog is, no dog should ever be treated like that. It makes me sad to say that there are some really sick people in our world. High praise to the people who are trying to help this dog. As for the dog trainers comment-- shame on you!

Why do so many people in this area feel the need to have pit bull's? The Durant Police Log that appears in the Daily Democrat is filled with calls almost every hour of a pit bull running loose, biting people, barking, etc. I think it's time for people to take responsibility of themselves and realize that what they have in a pit bull can be dangerous to others. Other communities have laws that hold owners responsibile for both the care and the actions of their animal, I think it's time that Durant does the same.
