GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- A Grayson County investigator is in stable condition on Thursday after an accidental shooting in his office on Wednesday.
Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary says Chad Butler, 28, accidentally discharged his weapon when placing it in his desk Wednesday morning.
Gary says the gun slipped from Butler's fingers, hit the floor, and fired a round that struck Butler in the lower abdomen.
"I've been in law enforcement for twenty years, and I’ve only seen it this happen twice. It's just one of those things. It slipped out of his hands," said Gary.
Butler was taken to Wilson N. Jones Hospital.
Butler has been with the sheriff's department for a year and a half.
No word on when he will return to work.
