Texas Heritage Day in Bonham

BONHAM, Tex. -- The city of Bonham is sharing its history with people from all over Texoma. The first annual Texas Heritage Day Celebration starts Saturday, and organizers say it's not just a celebration of the past, but that it will help bring in money for the future.

Organizers say people from all over the region will come to Bonham to take part in the first annual event. The goal of the festival is to show off Bonham’s history while bringing in tourism money to boost the local economy.

Bonham mayor Roy Floyd says he expects the festivities to draw thousands of people and thousands of dollars and says the increased traffic on the square will definitely benefit local merchants.

Guests will be treated to gun fighting shows, cowboy tales, and the Colgate Country Showdown, a country music competition that showcases acts from all over north Texas.

"This event started just as an idea. We thought at first people may or may not come, but it just gained momentum and gained momentum until where it has turned into an incredible event to where its almost has a snowball rolling down the hill kind of effect," said Floyd.

Again one of the events of the festival is the rodeo, and the final day of competition is Saturday afternoon. The festival should get started around 7 a.m. on Saturday.
