GARLAND, Tex. -- A Texas State Trooper from Paris was awarded the Purple Heart for courage Friday afternoon after he sustained serious injuries while on duty.
Trooper James Kain was hurt in February of 2003 while investigating an accident on the Sulphur River Bridge.
A car slid on icy bridge, hitting Kain and pushing him off the bridge to the ground below.
He was able to make a full recovery and return to duty.
Texas Department of Public Safety director Thomas Davis presented Kain with that award at a ceremony in Garland on Friday.
