DENISON -- Some residents are fighting to save the old Denison High School. On Saturday, many came out to sign a petition to save the high school.
On Thursday, Joe Pollaro, a Denison resident, paid the contractor $10,000 dollars to postpone the demolition. A candlelight vigil was also held in honor of the school. Community member say they want to bring awareness to what the old school means to so many and hoping other will join in on the fight.
Shirley Freeland has lived in Denison for 42 years and says, “I think if they would have started out right, asking the people of Denison or Grayson County if they wanted to keep it. I think even the grandkids that went to this school would have chipped in any fund/bond to save this school.”
A final decision in what will be done with the old historic building must be made by 5:00 p.m. on August 10th
