GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- West Grayson County is still cleaning up from the early summer flooding, and road crews appear to be bearing the brunt of the work.
It's been a difficult task for county workers who have a limited crew. Many are working overtime just to get the job done. Crews from ‘Barn 3’ began the long journey to restore roads to their pre-flood conditions.
Grayson County Commissioner Jackie Crisp says, "We’re back paving roads we started the week before the flood. We just got started. We got one strip down."
Paving crews were forced to stop on Hershberger Road near Sadler after rain delays.
"This morning was our first load, and we broke down and were rained out," says Precinct 3 foreman Audie Hall.
Hall says the rain wasn't the only problem crews ran into.
"Our chip machine broke down a belt broke and it's just a tough year for us to get started."
Hall says crews have been working fifty to sixty hours a week to get the roads in back into shape while the flood was bad enough for just about everyone in Texoma.
Hall says floodwaters wreaked havoc on every single road in his precinct.
"We’ve had overtime two or three times in the past month just to make the roads passable."
Hall says they have 355 miles of road left to pave, and it has to be completed by mid-october before another weather menace appears: freezing temperatures.
