TISHOMINGO, Okla. -- Residents of Tishomingo will soon see some new patrol cars cruising around the city. The police department received a whole new fleet of cars this week thanks to a $96,000 grant from the Rural Development Administration.
City officials were able to purchase six new fully equipped Ford Crown Victoria's. They say the previous fleet was 'getting up there' in mileage and costing the city thousands of dollars a year in maintenance.
"We had more than 100,000 miles on every car, and it was very expensive on maintenance. With these, we have a five-year warranty. We will save on maintenance costs to make up the cost on expense," Tishomingo city manager Jack Yates said.
Officials say these cars will help the city save nearly $18,000.
