Durant trying to salvage summer business

DURANT, Okla. -- The waters are receding at area lakes, and businesses are hoping summer tourism isn't completely washed out.

The Durant Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting Tuesday with chambers from across the lake, business owners, and the Army Corps of Engineers. They’re looking for ways to promote Labor Day weekend.

Millions of dollars of summer revenue was lost due to the flooding. Now businesses are looking to make the most of the rest of the season.

The Durant Chamber of Commerce plans to develop a website with all of the open spots around the lake.

"They’re going full force ahead. There are businesses that will open for the Labor Day weekend," says Durant Chamber director Janet Reed.

Some places like Tanglewood never closed on the Texas side, and others are opening back up everyday.

About 300 Corps campsites are expected to be open Labor Day weekend.
