ARDMORE, Okla. -- Ardmore city leaders signed off on a deal to buy 20 acres of land for Plainview Schools at Monday night's city commissioners meeting.

Some residents say they thought the city had bought the land outright using city street funds. Ardmore mayor Bob Guerin says the money instead came from the tax increment financing fund.

City manager Dan Parrott says the TIF fund is a huge benefit for the community.

"Anytime you have money to put back in the infrastructure without having to raise taxes, it’s a benefit. It doesn’t cost the tax payers anymore, there’s no cost to them," Parrott said.

After the deal is completed, Plainview will look into building a new elementary school.

I would like to say that if the City of Ardmore is going to start buying land for Plainview schools, why can't the City buy land for the Ardmore School District so that the Ardmore School district can build new schools for the Ardmore students, and save the Ardmore district some money as well. What makes the Plainview district better than the Ardmore district. The City is clearly playing politics and showing favortism toward one district in this matter. The Plainview district is rich in property taxes, I can't see why the voters in the Plainview district can't spend the money to buy their own land. I disagree with the city manager saying that this is a benefit to the community, it's not, it a benefit only to Plainview schools. It doesn't benefit the students of Ardmore City Schools one bit! Everyone here in Ardmore knows that politics is being played!
