SHERMAN -- A dangerous intersection in Sherman continues to cause concern for residents. Now they want something done about it.
The intersection of Lamar and Grand in Sherman has seen its fair share of accidents, many of which have been witnessed by nearby residents, but after years of worry, changes may be in store.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation say they recently discussed the intersection and what can be done to reduce the risk of accidents.
Over the past year, Sherman police officials say there have been 15 accidents at the intersection, which features a pair of stop signs on grand and blinking yellow caution lights on Lamar.
But officials with TXDOT say in order to add a stop light, the intersection must warrant a signal. That’s a decision which has not yet been made.
"We’ll probably take a look at it again after the Austin College traffic picks up again. We look at it to see what the accident history is and what the traffic outs are to see if it warrants a signal." said TXDOT area engineer Kevin Harris.
The next study to be conducted on the intersection will take place sometime in November.
