Pilot killed in Bonham plane crash

BONHAM, Tex. -- One man is dead after his plane crashes just after take-off.

Bonham city officials say they haven't dealt with a plane crash like this in quite some time. Now they want to find out what caused it to go down.

Authorities received the call around 7 o’clock Wednesday morning. When they arrived on the scene they found the body of Ronnie Wren, 61, along with what's left of the plane he was flying.

Investigators with the federal aviation administration were called on to the scene shortly after and have finished their preliminary investigation.

FAA officials say wren took off heading north bound when he made a hard right attempt to come back to the airport.

That's when officials say he lost control of his experimental Sonex aircraft.

Bonham city officials say this is the first crash within the city limits in the last 15 years, and there are still some questions left to be answered.

"When we get the call, we come up and find all the facts first, then we go out and search for stuff like that," said aviation safety inspector Oscar Thomas.

FAA officials say the exact cause of the crash should be determined in the next couple of weeks.

All those who knew Wren say he will be missed.
