More money for Fannin Co. children’s center

FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. -- The Fannin County Children's Center is getting a little help from the rest of the county.

County commissioners approved this week to award the children’s center $1 for every resident in the county according to the 2000 census.

The move comes after the Children’s Advocacy Center lost its state funding, which totaled around $48,000.

Officials with the center are also asking for the six major cities in the county to do the same, something which they have never done.

"We know money is tight, and we've never asked for that funding before, and we usually get the money elsewhere, but now that we're in this funding crunch and asked the cities and the county and asked them for a portion of the costs for the services we provide," Fannin County Children’s Advocacy Center executive director Sandy Barber says.

So far, Honey Grove and Trenton have agreed to donate to the center.
