National Guardsmen ship out, on standby

DENISON, Tex. -- As Hurricane Dean continues to threaten the Texas coast, National Guardsmen in Denison shipped out early Monday morning .

The guardsmen traveled just down the road to Wylie, Texas. The 112th Regiment is on standby in case Hurricane Dean hits Texas.

Guardsmen say this isn't the first time they've been called to help out. They say they also were called on after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

"As far as this battalion and this company goes, we're pretty good at the natural disasters. When it comes to hurricanes, we know what to do," said Sgt. James Gilliland.

Gilliland says guardsmen are taking the usual cache of equipment for disasters like major storms including rescue boats, tents, and water.
