COOKE COUNTY, Tex. -- A man is dead after a shooting early Monday morning in Gainesville. The 29-year old was rushed to the hospital but later died from the extent of his injuries. Jeffrey Pointer (pictured) is in custody facing charges for the murder of Gregory King.
Pointer was arrested Monday afternoon by the Gainesville Police. The parents of the victim are obviously still in shock that their son is gone.
Gainesville Police say they arrived at the family’s home on California Street around 1:30 Monday morning.
Officers say king had been shot in the stomach and was lying in the living room.
He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
His stepmother, Tisha King, says she heard three shots and ran out the back door to see what had happened. That's when she found her stepson.
"I’m just sick, disgusted…because it was uncalled for…I mean there is just no sense in that … to even carry a gun. We thought we were moving to a safer part of Gainesville."
Police say this is not a regular occurrence in Gainesville.
They are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
