COOKE COUNTY, Tex. -- A man is dead after a shooting early Monday morning in Gainesville. The 29-year old was rushed to the hospital but later died from the extent of his injuries. Jeffrey Pointer (pictured) is in custody facing charges for the murder of Gregory King.

Pointer was arrested Monday afternoon by the Gainesville Police. The parents of the victim are obviously still in shock that their son is gone.

Gainesville Police say they arrived at the family’s home on California Street around 1:30 Monday morning.

Officers say king had been shot in the stomach and was lying in the living room.

He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

His stepmother, Tisha King, says she heard three shots and ran out the back door to see what had happened. That's when she found her stepson.

"I’m just sick, disgusted…because it was uncalled for…I mean there is just no sense in that … to even carry a gun. We thought we were moving to a safer part of Gainesville."

Police say this is not a regular occurrence in Gainesville.

They are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

KXII will continue to follow and bring you the latest on this story.

To family in Dallas, I'm not attacking your family member, can you tell me it wasn't a drug deal gone bad??? I'm just saying " Don't blame the neighborhood" Any neighborhood with drugs in it is going to go bad eventually.

@ donut - that's nice. I am sure that you and everyone you know have lived perfect lives and never made bad decisions. I hope you never have a child who decides to live this lifestyle, because no matter what you try to do, they are going to do whatver they want to. So when your child is murdered, will you be happy to hear someone say "yay, another scumbag is dead!" No, thought not. How about some compassion for the family?

Anyone who knew Greg knows what he was into. However, try to imagine for a second, your son, brother, friend living a criminal lifestyle. When your son, brother, friend is MURDERED, tell me that you won't be sad and angry. It does not matter what the circumstances are - someone is dead and his friends and family have to deal with that. Having just lost a son himself, I am at a loss to understand why Pointer chose to end the life of someone else's child.

HA!!!!! Greg was usually so doped up he didn't realize he had a kid. It's amazing!!!! all the scumbags in G-ville keep killing each other. Pretty soon the crime rate has got to go down!!

It is sad because this is not the first time that Jeffrey Pointer has been questioned for a shooting in this town. Anyone who was associated with this person knew that he kept a gun on him at all times because he kept getting his a** whooped. If you keep a gun on you all the time then basically you have intentions to kill or harm someone. I mean come on how many of yall can raise your hand and say you go around carrying a pistol on you all the time? It was only a matter of time before something like this happened because of his actions especially when you are strung out on drugs. I hope they lock him up and throw away the key because now an innocent child has to grow up without ever seeing thier father again.

My 7yr old daughter can pull a trigger but it takes a real man to throw down with his hands. Drop the Guns and be a real man. You'll get more respect with your fists than a gun instead of Killing someone, The "P***Y" Way. will miss you Greg

Why are you editing my comment? I did not say anything wrong. The whole truth should be said!!! They pulled a gun and a fork on Pointer. He was defending himself...the gun went off on accident, and Pointer thought it hit him in the leg. He did not aim to kill him. It was SELF DEFENSE!!! Why edit my comment...there was nothing wrong with it, I made sure that I was nice! Why can Tisha King tell 4 stories and I can't even tell 1??? Who are you to edit my comment? This is a place to respond to the story, not report your version of what happened. We are a news organization. Please leave the reporting to the station. We will look into these other comments and remove them. -Staff

First my condolences go out to the family. Why is everybody making King out to be an angel? Who else left the scene after King was shot? Why didn't everybody stay to tell the cops what happened? Why did the stepmother not give all the details? What or who was she covering for? Why was 911 not called ASAP? There are a lot of unanswered questions and alot of fingers being pointed. King may still be alive if 911 would have been called sooner. edited by Staff

i am so sorry that this young person had to die this way. The "stepmom"seems to be telling two diiferent stories, this is not the first time she has told various stories as to what has happend to someone, the man that she had a child with hung himself about 3 years ago and there was more than one story told about the events leading up to his death. My heart does go out to his family, and I hope the guy that murdered him gets the maximum time.

First let me say to irritated: you don't know how right you are. Stepmom told me HERSELF that she didn't tell the cops everything. Now to "informed": I am from Gainesville and that neighborhood is not that great. If you want to attack someone, please don't make it my murdered family member!!
