Oklahoma lawmakers are taking the next step in securing your child's safety in day cares. Last month, Governor Brad Henry implemented new laws for child care providers. Now parents will have the ability to check daycare quality online.

For years parents have put their children in day care facilities without knowing if the center has violated Oklahoma Department of Human Services regulations.

Now with the simple click of a mouse parents can see get an idea of how safe their child will be.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Service added the new service to their website this week. DHS officials say it’s one of the best opportunities parents have to find out about incidents at local day cares. Parents like Jacob Hudson of Madill say it’s difficult to send your child to a facility that you know nothing about.

"It helps coming to a new community and being able to have info to help you choose a good place, and its great to have that feeling as well."

The website is easy to use and includes several extra amenities like the ability to search for providers in the area based on your criteria. Once you do find a suitable day care you can see what violations they have had, if any.

Fran Drummond Daycare has been in business for more than 30 years and has a three-star DHS rating, but they recognize not all daycare facilities share such a high rating.

"Unfortunately things happen, and it’s an eye opener for everyone, and DHS is doing a great job, and we work with them to give the best service for the children" Says Fran Drummond director Joanne Thomas.
