Missing woman's body found in city lake

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. -- On Thursday, 36-year-old Heather Lynn Adkins went sunbathing on the Pauls Valley City Lake. According to authorities, that was the last time anyone heard from her again. A city-wide search for the missing woman recovered nothing, until Saturday morning. Police say her body was found floating in the city lake.

Police Chief Dennis Madison says officers did not see signs of foul play. Adkins' friends were on shore at the time of her disappearance. They called rescuers around 8:30 that night, but once they were on scene they only found her life-jacket and watercraft. Madison says, “They did notice the Seadoo she was on. They didn’t know where it went. They went looking for her."

Authorities and rescue teams spent Thursday and Friday searching the lake, even the Garvin County Sheriffs Office joined in on the efforts. Madison says, "We ended the search last night at dark; resumed at sunrise this morning. Unfortunately, we found the body at 7:30 this morning."

Adkins body has been sent to state medical examiner office in Oklahoma City. Authorities have ruled out foul play as a possible cause and are now trying to piece together the puzzle.
