LOVE COUNTY, Okla. -- The trial for the two ‘rest stop killers’ in Love County was postponed Monday because the suspects were reportedly attempting to escape the Love County Jail.
In April, Timothy Byford, 18, and Shawn Leggett, 18, were arrested on charges of killing a Grand Prairie man at a Thackerville rest stop. Both men are from North Carolina and are being held at the Love County Jail.
Deputies had reports of an attempted escape by both men at the jail. When they checked their cells, they found several shanks from 2 to 6 inches long.
Both now face additional conspiracy charges. Their trial will begin sometime in January of 2008.
