DENISON-- More than one hundred Denison residents showed their support of city leaders Thursday night. Members of several churches across the city met in a field near the First Baptist Church.

Pastors spoke about how they hope for peace in Denison, as many residents have been split over the fate of the Old Denison High School.

They said it's not about politics, but saying they stand behind the mayor and the city council when decision-making is tough.

"We want to let htem know that what they're doing they do for nothing, and we support them and are praying the best for them, " said Phil Barton, a Denison resident.

Mayor Robert Brady attended the event and told us he appreciated prayers.

It is terribly sad to me that our community can come together for some old building we admire. But, for more important matters such as the moral state of our nation, which is of eternal significance gets almost no notice.

Sue, How can you be appalled by a showing of support and a call for healing in a peaceful manner? Past greatness? What about future greatness? How you can be critical of a group of people getting together and praying for unity and peace? It is obvious that you were not in attendance last night. It is obvious that you need a hobby.

This was an amazing event. Thank you to the church leaders that organized this and to those citizens that came to show support for our local leaders. To Sue in Denison, if you would have been there you would have heard the prayers for all of Denison not just the leaders. It is sad that the building is coming down, I went to that school, but we elect leaders to make the best choices for the future of Denison. I pray that you will find peace.
