Interstate 35 construction set to begin

CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- A cruise down I-35 is usually a breeze, until you reach Carter County, where on any given day, there is a 5-mile stretch of bumper to bumper traffic. This seems to be most common during the afternoon hours. With OU fans hitting the road on the weekend, traffic can see to even more slow.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says, “It is a heavily traveled roadway with the start of football season we do see increased traffic volume.” They say the road surface between mile maker 24 and 29 deserves a much needed surface lift. “That part of our state the interstate was built in the sixties and so were just improving the surface for the drivers."

The 24-million dollar O-DOT project is scheduled to be complete by early 2008 if the weather cooperates. For now officials are asking driver to exercise a little patience when driving, especially during weekend football season traffic. “We do ask them to allow ample time to get through areas like that when they know it will take little longer get through that area."
