SHERMAN, Tex. -- The Sherman Bearcats will play their homecoming game on Friday night against Sulphur Springs. Head coach Drew Young has decided that he will not be able to coach this Friday night.

Coach Young suffered a heart attack over the weekend. Doctors determined that he had 99% blockage in one of his arteries. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

He's recovering at home Thursday and says he plans to listen to the ballgame on the radio.

Assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Jason Heath will fill in for Coach Young on Friday.

Don't know the man personally but he seems to be a fine coach and good man. Get well quick and we'll see you at the Battle of the axe.

Coach Young..just knowing you through the media, I've learned you have exceptional people and coaching skills. The lessons you are teaching those boys and all who come in contact with you are life long. We're hoping in Denison, that our new coach can learn from you as an example....just this once I'm gonna say...."Go Bearcats" and best wishes to a speedy recovery.

I admire Coach Young for his coach skills but more importantly for his positive impact on his players and students. He is a good person. I wish him a speedy recovery and a return to his vibrant active lifestyle. Keep up the good work and know you are in the prayers of many folks you have never met.

Hey Coach Young, Sorry to hear about your illness, I know you will make it through just fine. Youre a tough ol' guy. I learned a lot by just being under you in athletics. Wish you were still here to take us to state!!! Take Care!!!
