GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- State funding is headed north to Grayson County, and officials say it will come in handy should an emergency arise. The money is being used for a new state-of-the-art emergency management operation facility.
Funding will include all equipment necessary to function. It also will bring Sherman, Denison and Grayson County’s current emergency operations centers into one building.
On Monday, law enforcement and officials toured three potential locations. Two of those were buildings at the Grayson County Airport.
Grayson County emergency management coordinator Jerry White says it will have tremendous long-term potential for Grayson County in terms of development.
He also says it will better serve to protect the residents of Grayson County
"We just finished a tour of the existing facility down at the courthouse, which is very small. After seeing this one, it has plenty of space, and it has real potential," White said.
Judge Drue Bynum says they are still in the preliminary stages but hope to have a plan in place by the January 1, 2008.
