GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Hundreds of people walk in and out of the Grayson County Justice Center every day, but it's about to become more of a task to step through those doors.

A new surveillance system will soon guard the entrance. County officials approved a $37,000, high-tech security system for the center, including x-ray machine and metal detectors.

Sheriff Keith Gary says courthouse shootings are becoming more common. One in East Texas two years ago proved deadly.

Gary and county officials say they have researched security at courthouses in other counties over the past year and a half and have now decided to implement some changes.

"There are horror stories all over the country where people have gone in and shot judges, particularly in divorce procedures, tempers flare; it's a very dangerous time. We don’t normally think it is, but it is," Gary said.

Officials say work on the new security system is expected to begin on the lobby in five to six weeks.

Yeah, that stuff happens when you let everyone and their brother walk around with guns. Add to that the fear of other human beings that is so widespread and out of control, and you have the perfect recipe for these shootings - which will never stop until you eliminate these root causes.

If the Sheriff will recall the shooting in East Texas took place on the front lawn of the courthouse, not in the building. Is he going to protect the outside of the building also? I don't think this will solve any issues or concerns with exception of raising the taxes in the near future.
