MADILL, Okla. -- A local construction company has spent the past two months coming up with a plan to honor local war heroes. Now Madill veterans are hoping county commissioners will approve those plans.
The idea was presented to Marshall County commissioners back in late July. If approved, we could soon see a veterans' memorial outside the Marshall County Courthouse.
Madill company Herndon Construction wants to make the dream of honoring hometown heroes a reality. When Thomas Herndon approached chamber of commerce director Jeff Hudson about the idea, Hudson immediately went to work on the project, talking with county commissioners about constructing a veteran’s memorial with every Marshall County veteran's name etched in stone on the courthouse lawn.
Retired Army Corporal Lyndol Adams is a Korean War Veteran and Chaplin of the VFW American Legion in Madill. He says he can't describe how much a memorial would mean to him and his fallen comrades.
"There will be names on there that I know…people I can remember, and when I see their names, I can be thankful for this veteran that served our nation in a wonderful way," said Adams.
County commissioners are set to vote on the project during their next meeting on October 1st, but funds are already being raised to construct the memorial.
