Ada company helps a Pontotoc Co. middle school this holiday season

STONEWALL, OK -- McLish Middle School in Stonewall has one of the largest remaining wood structures in Oklahoma.

Their gymnasium was built in the 1930's and has held hundreds of practices and games.

But this fall, school official noticed the building was starting to wear down.

"The back of the gymnasium was added on to in the late 80's," said Stonewall Schools Superintendent, Kevin Flowers. "We added dressing rooms and bathrooms back here, and we started noticing separation and sinking of our foundation."

Flowers says the district contacted Ram Jack, an Ada-based foundation repair company, for an estimate to repair the back of the gym. But when the company officials became aware of the situation, they decided they would do the job...for free.

"This school is the alma mater of the owner of the local franchise, Tina Gregory," said Ram Jack Director of Franchise Aquisitions, Randon Gregory. "So whenever this came across her desk she said well lets give back to the community and lets give back to my school. She had a lot of great memories here so she wanted to keep the building in tact however she could."

Gregory says the job will take two days for crews to repair.
He says crews are using steel pilings to lift the building up and stabilize it with the foundation.

Flowers says the repair would have cost the district around 18 thousand dollars, but to have it done for free is a generous holiday gift for staff and students.

"It benefits us in that we get the sewer issues and foundation repair and so we get usuable space again, but also that's money that's left in the classroom and it doesn't have to be removed to make these repairs," Flowers said.
