ADA, OK -- Ada residents will see more commercials like these over the next few weeks.
It's part of a promotional campaign the Ada Chamber of Commerce and Ada Jobs Foundation are running to encourage residents to shop local.
Their slogan,"Better our community, Shop Ada."
"It's all about educating the public on what a difference it makes when you spend your tax dollars here as opposed to somewhere else," said Chamber Senior Vice President, Sarah Jane Johnson.
And Chamber CEO, Michael Southard, says it can make a big difference.
"If we were able to reduce our purchases outside of our community from 25 percent to 15 percent that would generate an additional $200,000 a month for city services," Southard said.
Those services include fire, police, improvements to city buildings and streets, and other projects.
Business owner, Gunar Matheny, says people will always go out of town to shop, but it's the service that distinguishes a local store.
"We're trying to create a life long customer, not just a costumer that will be in here for one purchase and never see them again," Matheny said. "If you can create a lifelong customer that means you'll be getting generations down the family."
With the holiday season and Black Friday coming up, local business owners are competing with large retailers outside the area, but say going the extra mile for their customer will keep them coming back.
"We'll offer a little extra discounts and extra incentives that day," said James Criswell of Gem Jewelers. "Just try to be more service oriented to our customers and we may serve refreshments."
