ANNA, TEXAS -- Three months after a driver plowed into a local pizzeria killing a diner, Mama Mia's Pizzeria is now reopening.
Allison Harris was there for the emotional day as the owners welcomed family members of the victim back to the restaurant today.
Today in Anna, the final touches were put on Mama Mia's Pizzeria, repairing the damage the restaurant incurred back in October, when a driver lost control of her car and plowed through the building.
"All the sudden it was like everything was rolling toward me and I jumped out of the way," Kim Peat said.
Peat was working that day, serving regulars Mickey Williams, her son Rhett and her mom, Virginia Hamlin.
"Hadn't quite left yet, 'bout ready to go to the car when we heard the first sounds and everything began to go into motion at that point," Williams said.
"I was hollering at the same time saying, 'Get out of the way,' but it was just too late. I mean, they couldn't move and everything was just coming toward us," Peat said.
Virginia was pinned under the car. She later died in the hospital.
"We held hands and they said prayers for our family. It was just an immediate support," Williams said.
Williams says the restaurant owners have been friends with their family for years.
"She was one of our first customers," Ziad Nowar said.
Pizzeria owners Ziad and Imad Nowar were saddened that they had lost a great friend.
"We found out we were going to be grandparents and great grandparents here, so it's been a very comfortable place to come," Williams said.
Williams and Rhett made the emotional return to the restaurant that they say they wouldn't miss.
"I knew that it was going to be a difficult entrance into this room and space, but I knew I could do it," Williams said.
The Williams' say they're moving forward, remembering Virginia and the good times they all shared here.
