CALERA, OK -- Calera Police have made an arrest in connection with last Sunday's accident that left a 13-year-old girl dead.
The arrest comes just a day after investigators reconstructed the accident. Police say the suspect was arrested Friday afternoon after coming to the police department to share his side of the story. Officers say 21-year-old Jesus Garcia Jr. is facing a charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell. Police say Garcia crashed a pickup into a car at the intersection of Southbound 75 and Mckinley St. Authorities say inside that car was 13-year-old Skyla Fisher who died and her mother and brother who were critically injured. Calera Police Chief Don Hyde says Garcia had left the Choctaw Casino and was headed back home when the accident happened.
"The evidence shows that at some point during his travels back home, inattentive, a source of carelessness occurred and we'll get more in the particulars of that in the investigation," Chief Hyde said.
Police say 6-year-old Riley Spielman is in critical, but stable condition. Riley and Skyla's mother, Kelly, remains in critical condition.
