COLLIN COUNTY, TX -- Collin County has reported its first flu-related death.
The Collin County Health Department says a Plano woman in her late 50s died last week.
The CDC says the flu is widespread in Texas. In Dallas County at least 26 people have died from a flu-related illness. Those at high risk for developing complications from the virus include children younger than 5, adults 65 years and older, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
Heath experts expect this flu season to peak next month and say the best way to prevent the illness is to get vaccinated.
