Daughter arrested for murder in Pottsboro woman's beating death

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- A Pottsboro woman has been arrested, accused of murdering her own mother last year.

Shelia Mae Wolfe was arrested for the murder of her mother, Marlene Cannon.

Authorities tell News 12 Wolfe lived with Cannon at the time of the assault and some residents News 12 spoke to say they were shocked to find out Wolfe is a suspect in the investigation.

"They came out and told me Shelia had been arrested and that was surprising," said neighbor, Doug Pape.

Residents on Flowing Wells road in Pottsboro were shocked to learn Grayson County Sheriff's investigators and the Texas Rangers had arrested Shelia Mae Wolfe Tuesday at the same home where Wolfe's mother, Marlene Cannon, was found brutally beaten on December 16 of last year.

"She did live at the residence," said Sergeant David Russell. "What the motive is we do not know at this time."

Sergeant Russell with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office says Cannon died at a Plano hospital two days after the assault.

He says while Wolfe has been arrested in connection with the murder, the investigation is still ongoing.

"Anytime we have a homicide, we look at all the leads we can accumulate and through the process of elimination we came up with Ms. Wolfe," Russell said.

Neighbor, Doug Pape, says he was friends with both Cannon and Wolfe and was shocked to learn about Wolfe's arrest.

"It was surprising you know, I mean we didn't know anything," Pape said. "Shelia has always been nice to me and of course I've been friends with Marlene for years, like I said, we just didn't know."

Another neighbor who didn't want to be shown on camera says she's relieved authorities are making progress in the investigation.

"The not knowing was what was scary," said the neighbor. "Not knowing if this person was lurking around in the neighborhood just watching the rest of the neighbors so i'm just finally glad that they found someone."

Russell says Wolfe remains in the Grayson County Jail and her bond is set at $1,000,000.

Coincidentally, Flowing Wells Road is the same road where Enoch Dixon lived. The elderly Pottsboro man disappeared in February and his body was found two weeks later. His death was accidental.
