DENISON, TX -- Four Denison residents are without a home tonight after a fire ripped through their apartments. One resident says he isn't letting it bring him down.
Flames and thick smoke seen by many from miles away. At 10:00 Saturday morning, Denison firefighters were told this home on Crawford Street was on fire.
"When we arrived, I found of course the two story heavily involved," Batallion Chief, Harley Davis said.
"The buildings like smoke every where, in flames and all of a sudden I turn and a guy hops out just in shorts, no shoes, no nothing," witness Brianna Hampton said.
Three people were inside this home turned into an apartment complex. Two jumped from a window. One of those was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
This was the scene for more than three hours as Denison, Sherman and the North Texas Regional Airport fire departments fought the blaze.
"It's a hard fire to fight, this one was," Davis said.
Batallion Chief Harley Davis says the home's age is the reason the fire wouldn't die down.
"This type of construction in these older buildings is more like a balloon constuction. It's just open walls from the bottom floor, all the way to the attic. So, if fire gets in the walls it just takes off and I mean, it moves rapidly," Davis said.
Four people lost everything. One of those, John Ricks. Ricks lived in the apartments for two years, and although he's lost everything, he can still see through the smoke.
"Emotionally I'm just as sound as all get out. I have faith in God and that's all there is to it. This is just a little minor set back. That's all there is to it, it ain't going to stop from believing that just as sure as he gave me that there, he's going to give me some more," Ricks said.
The Red Cross and Denison residents have stepped in to help all of the residents who have lost their belongings.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters say it is a total loss
