Former Big Five board member honored

COALGATE, OK -- A former Big Five Community Services board member was honored today in Coalgate.

Family and community members gathered at the Louis Sandmann Senior Housing Complex to honor the building's namesake, who passed away this April.

Tuesday was Sandmann's birthday, and the organization honored him with a tree dedication and a plaque presented to his family.

Trees will also be planted around the senior housing complex in his honor.

"We have former state representatives here, city council people here, and members of community all here to honor this man," said Big Five Executive Director, Kent Watson. "He was a true epitome of a man that wanted to serve his community."

Sandmann served as a board member for 36 years.
