The Gainesville police department welcomed their new chief tonight as he was officially sworn into office.
Dozens of people showed up for chief Kevin Phillips' badge pinning ceremony at the Steven K. Fleming Public Safety Center early this afternoon.
The public was invited for a meet and greet with their new chief who says he's excited for this opportunity and ready to serve the residents of Gainesville.
"Law enforcement is very dynamic environment. So we always have to continue to change and adapt so we can meet the needs of our community and that's what we're going to continue to do. We're going to continue down that path of doing what we need to do to make the city of Gainesville a better place," said Kevin Phillips, Gainesville's police chief.
Chief Phillips says the city of Gainesville has always supported the police department and looks forward to continuing that relationship.
