Man charged with Manslaughter in Coal County fatal accident

COAL COUNTY, OK -- Saturday marks three months since a Coal County accident that left resident Rebecca Ford dead. Authorities say she was hit head-on by a semi on State Highway 3. Friday the driver of that truck was booked into the county jail, charged with Manslaughter, after his blood test came back positive for methamphetamine.

Just after 11:30 Friday afternoon 56-year-old Terell Munday, of Enid, was booked into the Coal County Jail on a charge of 1st Degree Manslaughter.

On January 8th around 8:30 a.m., Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper John Ivey says Munday was driving east on State Highway 3, about six miles west of Coalgate, when he crossed the center line and struck two vehicles, one of those vehicles driven by 52-year-old Rebecca Ford.

"Mr. Munday's vehicle crossed left of center struck the first vehicle there at the bridge at Caney Creek and veered off that vehicle and then struck Ms. Ford's vehicle on the shoulder, pinning her against the guard rails," Ivey said.

After first responders freed Ford from the vehicle she was taken to a local hospital, but died a short time later.

"Mr. Munday was distraught and weeping at the time. He was very concerned with the other driver," Ivey said.

At that time, authorities say there was no probable cause to arrest Munday, but due to the severity of the accident, he was given a blood test, which was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Prosecutor Erik Johnson says he received the test results about three weeks ago.

"The lab results indicate that there was the presence of methamphetamine in his system," Johnson said.

The Manslaughter charge was then filed and a warrant was issued for Munday's arrest. The Coal County Sheriff's Office says Munday was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal's Service in Oklahoma City Thursday.

"Obviously it's a serious charge and a serious offense, and you know it's a tragedy for the family involved," Johnson said.

If found guilty Munday could face up to life in prison.
