ARDMORE, OK - Mountain View Mall was built in 1979, and property manager Cathy Bump said it is time for some improvements.
"Nothing much has been done to it since then so it was just time for it to be updated," said Bump.
The project began in September with an estimated cost of $5 million dollars. Currently crews are working on the exterior of the building and a set of public restrooms. But after Christmas shoppers will see new lights, floors, ceilings and stores changing locations.
"We're moving Staples from the end cap down to the center of the mall and expanding out toward the parking lot 4,000 feet," said construction project manager Danny Hooper. "So it'll be like a center theme of the mall and then T.J. Maxx is going where Staples is now."
Nortrade sells cell phone covers, purses and toy helicopters in the center of Mountain View Mall, and sales associate Autumn Avery said she's looking forward to the changes.
"Probably like having a store here," said Avery. "Because more people will come in to want to go to Staples and it'll bring more customers through here, which will help us out."
And Bump hopes the mall makeover will also add to the community.
"It's going to be a big plus for this area and for the mall, and for Ardmore."
The project is expected to be complete by this time next year. The mall will stay open throughout the project.
