GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS -- Elected officials and community members joined in song and praise this morning for the National Day of Prayer.

Grayson County Commissioner Phyllis James coordinated this year's event at the Grayson County Courthouse.

Those wishing to begin the day in public prayer gathered in the east courtroom, where music, prayers and scripture was uplifted.

Commissioner James voiced her appreciation that many Grayson County leaders are people of faith.

"For us to come together corporately to pray for our nation and our state and our county, here in this courthouse, is just amazing. Because like I said, there are places today in our United States, where we wouldn't be allowed to do that. And I'm just honored that I serve in a county who seeks the Lord," James said.

The National Day of Prayer pre-dates our country; it was established in 1775.
