New academy opens its doors in Fannin County

(BONHAM, TEXAS) -- The first full-time, licensed private school is set to open it's doors in Fannin County.

Fannin County is a growing community but public schools were the only option for education until Morning Star Academy came along.

Community Development Director and parent Kristi Baker says "we're very proud that Fannin County has something like this..that someone had a vision to bring this to our area instead of having to drive to outside areas..to have something of this magnitude"

Academy leaders say they're set to be among the most prestigious schools in Texoma..

Head of School Brandy Burns says," kinda started as a dream from a single donor..and just started talking from there and kinda grew into what it is today."

The school is built and 100% paid for. Donors say they're happy to advance the greatest investment of all -- Education. While parents are thankful to have this option.

The school is currently enrolling from age 6 weeks to first grade and plan to add a grade each year.

Brandy Burns says " I think there's that commitment to grow..but really its how the community responds and if they want that middle school or high school and then we'll start fund raising for that when the time comes."

The school boasts the latest energy saving technology, smart boards, music and art classes, and a Christian curriculum.

The first day of school is August 26th. The foundation is already laid to build four more classrooms and a gym..they plan to start construction on that next month.
