ARDMORE, OK -- Oklahoma lawmakers are conducting an interim study to find out how veterans are being treated that live in state veteran centers.
Senator Frank Simpson says he requested the study after hearing recent reports of abuse. The study will take an overall look at the Oklahoma Department of Veteran Affairs and focus on reports of abuse, staffing levels and the structure of the War Veterans Commission.
Simpson says he hopes to have the study complete by November so if action needs to be taken a bill can be written in time for the 2013 legislative session.
"We are not just looking for the bad things ODVA does, but the good things too because ODVA does a lot of wonderful tings and I know these allegations, if they are true and we don't know that. They are probably isolated incidents," Senator Frank Simpson said.
Senator Simpson says he urges anyone with concerns on the matter to contact him and share their story.
