Trial date set for man charged with killing three family members

(FANNIN COUNTY, TEXAS)-- A trial date for the Fannin County man charged with killing three of his family members and dumping their bodies along highway 11 last year has been set.

Thomas Taunton's defense team met with the Fannin County District Attorney and Judge Laurie Blake this morning. They set his trial for August 11th of next year as the defense team said they need a full year to prepare.

Taunton is charged with capital murder for shooting and killing his step-father, his mother, and his sister in January of 2012 and then dumping the bodies along highway 11 in Grayson County where they were found days later.

If convicted, Taunton will face the death penalty. He has remained in The Fannin County Jail since January of 2012 when the shootings took place.

Judge Blake urged the D.A and Taunton's defense team to come to an agreement on the trial date this morning because Taunton has been in jail for over 500 days. Pre-trial will commence on May 9th 2014 followed by the trial on August 11, 2014.

They also discussed using The Bonham High School gym as the spot for jury selection because they will need a larger venue than the Fannin County courthouse.
