Trooper injured in Oklahoma Highway Patrol plane crash

BETHEL ACRES, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been injured in a plane crash while searching for a person who was involved in a car accident.

Patrol spokeswoman Betsy Randolph says the trooper was flying a plane that crashed Friday night in Pottawatamie County. Randolph says he was taken by helicopter to a hospital.

The trooper was helping search for a person who had apparently left a car accident and stumbled into a wooded area. The person was believed to be injured.

Randolph says that at some point during the search, the person started to try to elude authorities. But the trooper found the person and was able to direct other officers to the area.

As officers were heading there, the trooper's plane went nose-down into the ground.
