SHERMAN, TX -- For the second time in history, the government is advising pregnant women to get a whooping cough vaccination.

There have been more than 32,000 cases of whooping cough this year including 16 deaths.

The resurgence has the nation on track for the worst year for the infection since the 1950s.

But doctors say If a woman gets the vaccination during her pregnancy, she'll pass the immunity on to her baby.

"It's fairly common, there are about 3,000 cases in the US every year among children. And so there are usually several right here in Grayson County."

Flu shots are also recommended for pregnant women.
